For a long period of time, I thought about how I should continue to reconstruct this abandoned house. I thought about several options and decided that the simpler the better. Thanks to my friend Jack, we managed to do a lot of work and for the first time we were able to spend the night in this stone house.

I think after seeing that snake you're next project show be closing in where the walls meet the roof lol. Not sure what kind of snake it was but I wouldn't want it as a house guest. So sorry this wonderful house got flooded out. I had no idea you were on a flood plain. I saw the arrival by canoe so many times - but it always seemed you were climbing a hill to get to the house. it must have been so upsetting to see the water damage. Glad that you've repaired it pretty well, though. When I think of all that work - how HARD you worked to build it . . .

Alex ! Bravo !! Do not know how I missed this one A whole year ago . What an amazing house ! AND, a trekking companion who apparently loves the outdoors as much as you do . I recognize that both types of lodgings have positive and negative advantages and disadvantages ! The 'dugout' is much cozier in the cold winter, as long as it stays dry and uninhabited by creatures. That huge aboveground timbered house with a loft would be wonderful in the warmer months, but was probably very 'chilly' in the winter conditions you experienced !
